Introduction:

The availability of a good information base is one of the crucial factors to attract mining investments since the investment process calls for the availability of sufficient information on the proposed potential minerals. The YGSMRB provides a good mining information base to enable the investor to make take an informed decision . The information data base contains especially with regard to geological maps, as the information base contains the geological studies, results of previous mineral exploration programs, the mining explorations, data of the various geological surveys such as geological, geophysical, hydrologic, topographic and mineral maps of different scales. The most important geological and mining information available in Yemen can be summarized as follows:

1.The Information Bank:

The Information Bank consists of a wide range of technical reports, scientific and field researches, dissertations and geo-scientific research in addition to the reports and results of the geological surveys and minerals prospecting and exploration carried out by the Board and the mining companies. The Information Department has managed to make all the previous reports of works that were implemented in Yemen which has not been previously  hadn't been available. Such reports have been classified and sorted out to constitute the basic information foundation for planning of future works and studies. The total number of reports and specialized studies amounted to 1650 titles in 2009. An introductory guide has been issued for researchers to help them find the needed information easily: for more information press "data search for geological".

2. Maps:

The YGSMRB has worked towards covering the Republic of Yemen with a variety of specialized maps. The Information Department has classified and sorted the maps according to their type and scale and consequently issued an introductory guide of the available information on maps to help researchers. The most important maps available with the Board are the following:

3. The Geological Library:

The library contains 4225 titles (2009) and it has been recently updated with several books, references, valuable and specialized periodicals. These have been sorted and classified by topics and language as they involve references in Arabic, English, French, German, Russian and Chinese in addition to several video tapes and CDs.

The Information Department has subscribed in several scientific magazines to keep up with the latest in geo-sciences. It has also managed to establish distinguished relations to share information with some specialized Arab and Foreign libraries in order to continue to update and furnish the library with specialized publications.
